VOLVO IS MORE THAN A CAR!
On October 11, 2011, the world’s premier offshore yachting event, the Volvo Ocean Race, will set off from Alicante, Spain.
This will be the first time this prestigious race starts from a Mediterranean port. This will be the longest, most challenging Volvo Ocean Race ever, with 8 teams competing in a 39,000 mile race around the world. From Alicante, to Cape Town, to Kochi, then Sinapore, to Quingao, on to Rio de Janeiro, to Galway, then Goteborg, to Stockholm, and finally finishing in St. Petersburg in July 2009.
Between now and the start of the race, visitors to Alicante can enjoy a full program of free events including sports events, music, children’s, and many more activities at the Village. This is a special area the port of Alicante has built where the competing yachts will be seen by the public. It will be the largest ever venue in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race. It will contain the team bases where the yachts will be berthed, along with shops and restaurants.
Alicante is a small city on the Costa Blanca, part of Spain’s Mediterranean coast between Barcelona and Malaga. It offers a number of attractions, including the Explanada de Espana, a pedestrian way paved with wavy black and tan mosaics and lined by palm trees. There is Castell De Santa Barbara on Mount Benacantil (more than 500 feet above sea level), the Mercado Central, and several museums. The Bullfighting Museum is interesting, and to celebrate the life of St. John the Baptist, there is the Museo de les Fogueres de Sant Joan. The Explanada runs parallel to the water’s edge and is where the yachts and ships dock at the port of Alicante. This where you can board your chartered vessel from TAYLOR’D YACHT CHARTERS to watch the race and party in style. One of these charterable yachts could be S/Y PHILANDERER.
S/Y PHILANDERER is an incredible deal for you race lovers! Her charter rate is 35,000 Euros for 5 days minimum with no delivery fees to Alicante. (Her normal rate for 7 days is 56,000 Euros.)
